Media X Members have access to new ideas through participation in campus events, classes and labs, placement of company researchers on campus, participation in program governance, setting of research agendas, and sharing of intellectual property.

Media X also offers professional development opportunities for researchers in member organizations through visits, sabbaticals, project and student mentorships, co-teaching, and research collaborations.

Additionally, Media X members establish relationships with Stanford students during degree programs, facilitating recruiting and knowledge dissemination.

There are two levels of membership in Media X:

AFFILIATE: $50,000 per annum. This membership includes access to information about Media X initiatives, as well as special rates for Media X events. It also includes - on company-selected topics - an on-campus Focus Day with presentations, tours and discussions featuring selected Stanford researchers and thought leaders working on research related to the topic.

ASSOCIATE: $10,000 to $25,000 per annum. Includes reduced fees at Media X events and invitation to member activities. This membership is for non-profit and start-up companies and includes access to information about Media X initiatives, as well as special rates for Media X events.

Membership Opportunities:

Media X Visiting Scholar: An employee of a Media X member company may affiliate with a Stanford research laboratory and actively participate in ongoing research activities at that and other Stanford labs. $75,000 each approved scholar per year; available for Affiliate and Associate Members.

Round Table Workshop: Media X Round Tables are workshops built on member-defined topics around related Stanford research, with participation of selected people from the Media X community. The discussions are topflight and the networking is dynamic; a prioritized insight agenda is produced by the workshop members. $10,000 to $20,000, depending on duration and size.

Media X Research Initiatives: Media X members are allowed to participate in Research Initiatives. Each Research Initiative requires a minimum of $300,000. Every Initiative must have a principal Sponsor. Sponsorship can be shared by two or three companies. Sponsors can participate for $50,000 or more. The goal for each Media X Research Initiative is $400,000 to $700,000.

A Research Initiative is launched with a wide-area Request for Proposals to Stanford faculty. Sponsoring companies are given preliminary review of proposals and provide suggestions about preferred projects. RFP awards are selected by a Faculty Selection Committee. Continued awards to research projects selected for funding may be funded without a follow-on RFP.

Media X may propose unselected projects to any Media X Member for possible gift support. Sponsoring companies may choose to fund directly any project not selected by the faculty committee (not a gift.) Media X may also propose unselected projects to other Media X Members for directed support (not a gift.)

Media X Program Sponsorship Naming Opportunities for Members and Non-Members:
